Chintamanrao Deshmukh Institute for Administrative Careers is a unique venture undertaken by the Thane Municipal Corporation since 1987. It enjoys the reputation of being perhaps the only institute being run by a municipal corporation to prepare the aspiring youth to enter the civil services.

The Institute has today become synonymous with good training and resolve. In the 35 years of its proud existence, the Institute has been giving the country several ace and efficient officers who are now working in different services of the Central and State governments in various parts of the country.

The Institute distinguishes itself from all other private coaching institutes in many aspects. Firstly, being a government- run organization, it provides guidance and other facilities free of cost to its students. Every year, 70 students are chosen through a screening test followed by an interview. However, the students can continue availing of the facilities of the Institute should they need to appear for the examination more than once.

Secondly, the Institute takes an altogether different approach of looking at the Civil Services Examination. It adopts an 'Integrated Approach' to develop the thinking capabilities of the aspirants to guide them through the Preliminary exam, Main exam as well as Interview. The interactive lectures conducted by the regular as well as expert guest faculty help students comprehend numerous issues of national and international importance. It proves to be a better method than giving readymade notes to the students which lack originality. Once enabled to think and analyze on their own, the students can tackle any question in the dynamic and challenging Civil Services Examination.

Thirdly, the periodic and comprehensive tests and mock interviews conducted by the Institute familiarize the students with the nature of the different stages of Civil Services Examinations conducted by Union Public Service Commission. The Institute's library houses nearly 7500 books on curricular and extra-curricular subjects. It also subscribes a dozen daily newspapers and 26 magazines useful for the preparation of the Civil Services Examination. The large reading rooms of the Institute give enough liberty and appropriate environment to the students for studies and discussions. The Institute also provides internet access to the students.

The Institute celebrates its silver jubilee year and simultaneously keeps upgrading itself to help the aspiring civil servants overwhelm the challenges posed by the changing nature of the Civil Services Examination.
